Enzym-Complete/DPP-IV with Isogest

A revolutionary enzyme product from Kirkman®

The human intestinal tract contains seven enzymes that break up dietary disaccharides into free monosaccharides. Until now, commercially accessible enzyme products incorporated enzyme ingredients that had the activity of only some of these disaccharidase enzymes. One in particular, however, sucrase-isomaltase complex, was only partly represented in these products. Invertase is icontained in these products to hydrolyze sucrose to supply glucose and fructose, and to hydrolyze other complex sugars that contain fructose, so it behaves as a sucrase enzyme. The isomaltase fraction of that human enzyme isn’t represented since there’s no commercially accessibleform of isomaltase in the world.

The importance of this excluded enzyme fraction was corroborated in January 2004 by R. Kushak, PhD and T. Buie, MD of Massachusetts General Children’s Hospital in an intestinal biopsy study consisting of 100 children with special requirements and sensitivities. The study established that 60% of these patients had ineffective lactaseactivity and 25-45% had ineffective isomaltase/palatinase activity, which affirmed their special dietary need for an enzyme supplying isomaltase/palatinase activity.

This study supplied the impetus for Kirkman® to look for an enzyme that had isomaltase/palatinase activity. Kirkman® found that enzyme and trademarked it Isogest®.

Isogest® has the ability to divide isomaltose into two molecules of glucose and to break palatinose into one molecule of glucose and one molecule of fructose. The result of including this new enzyme is improved carbohydrate digestion. Presently, no other enzyme product can provide this added activity.

EnZym-Complete/DPP-IV™ II with Isogest® is Kirkman’s second generation variation of Enzym-Complete/DPP-IV™. It contains all the enzymes found in Enzym-Complete/DPP-IV™ plus Isogest®. The presence of Isogest® grants this product the same activity of the isomaltase fraction of the sucrase/isomaltase enzyme located in the human digestive system.
