Kirkman’s trimethylglycine (TMG) is derived from beets, which is the commercially accessible source. TMG is dimethylglycine (DMG) with one more methyl group. The chemical structure of TMG is a glycine molecule holding onto three methyl groups. TMG is regarded as a "methyl bank" or "methyl donor" in a similar fashion as DMG.The extra methyl group causes TMG to be a more active methyl donor than DMG, which is beneficial for some people.
