Kirkman’s No Sugar is a sugar substitute that contains sucralose. It can be used in the exact proportions as regular sugar.

Sucralose tastes like sugar because it’s made of natural sugar employing a proprietary process that selectively replaces three of the sugar molecule’s hydroxyl groups with chlorine atoms. As opposed to some other sugar substitutes, it can be viewed as deriving from natural sources. McNeil Specialty Products Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson®, manufactures the sucralose used in No Sugar.

Sucralose has been subjected to among the most comprehensive and exhaustive safety screening programs ever conducted on a new food additive. More than 100 clinical studies, conducted over a 20-year period have concluded that sucralose is safe. Furthermore, after consumption, it passes through the body without being metabolized. The FDA has authorized it for use in beverages, dietary supplements and foods because of these safety tests results.

Sucralose is the ideal sugar replacement because:

  • It doesn’t react with other ingredients.
  • It doesn’t require a warning label like other sweeteners.
  • It’s stable in hot and cold temperatures and can be used in baking.
  • It’s made from natural sugar, but it is sugar free.
  • It doesn’t promote tooth decay.
  • It’s safe for diabetics.
  • It’s no unpleasant aftertaste.

The carrier and bulking agent used in No Sugar is sorbitol. Sorbitol was chosen because it’s roughly the equivalent density as sugar, plus it’s casein free, gluten free, soy free , sugar free, and far removed by processing from any corn products.

The quantity of sorbitol ingested on a daily basis should be monitored since some people can’t digest large amounts without some gas and/or a laxative effect. For this reason, our label has an "excess consumption" warning geared for adults. If children are sorbitol sensitive, we recommend conferring with a physician prior to use.

Kirkman’s No Sugar can be used to sweeten coffee, foods, tea, and juices, and it can also be used as an alternate for sugar in baking breads, brownies, cookies, muffins, etc. Each teaspoon contains approximately 20 calories.

Warnings:

  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Store in a cool dry place and tightly capped.
  • Adults should not exceed ten teaspoons per day.
  • Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
